ITALY.
A measure for universal suffrage has been proposed in the Chamber of Deputies, but was resisted by the Ministry. Multitudes have been rendered destitute by devastating floods. They are being fed by the authorities. The damage resulting from the recent eruption of Mount Vesuvius is estimated at £30,000 (covered by subscriptions).
