The latest London dale is Ist May, which is not so late as the Suez mail. The public sales of wool were progressing slowly. Foreign buyers were operating with caution, and a similar policy had been adopted by the home trade. Good wools show a fall of 2d, and inferior do 2£d to 3d, as compared with last sales. The demand for hides is limited. First heavy, New Zealand, 6|d ; second, sfd ; salted horse, Bd. Butter, 38s to 40s. Tallow.— Beef, 42s 6d ; mutton, 43s 6d. The demand for flax is active at from £38 los to £40 ; finest, £42. New York, May 13. The receipts of the new crop of Australian wool are beginning to stock up, and the bulk of the supply intended for the American market now to hand is rapidly passing into consumption. The sales of Australian for the month include 752,000 lbs, at prices ranging from 60e. to 67c, and 50,000 lbs heavy at 56c. At the close it would be difficult to obtain 62c. to 63c. for best descriptions on the market. New Zealand flax is quiet ; there being none in first hands, no sales are reported ; prices nominal. Sa.n Francisco, May 23. "Wheat is active at 2 dollars 15 cents per lOOlbs. LiverpooN;elegrams, 12s 6d. The proposed American subsidy to Webb's line has been rejected by the Senate.
