Germany and Italy are united in the bonds of reciprocal friendship, but tbe | existence of a treaty between them is denied. The cordial reception given to M. Fournier, the new French Minister, at Rome, is considered a triumph for the Liberal party. On the 12th, the Pope gave an audience to 400 foreigners, delivering an allocution. Official relations with Russia have been 1 renewed. A Commission of Inquiry is visiting the chief towns to ascertain the opinion of the people on the free trade postal convention now being negotiated with Russia. Arrangements are also being made with the P. and O. Company. A Working Men's Congress has been opened at Rome.
