THE WOOL TRADE.
The following facts the Melbourne Age thinks will repay the attention of those interested in the woollen trade, and cannot fail to be suggestive in the indications they afford of the prospects of the woollen districts for the year 1872. The following table shows the remarkable rise in the value of Colonial wool from Christmas, 1870. to Christmas, 1871 :—
showing an average advance of 62 per cent. The advance in English, wool has, however, been still more remarkable, and, although they are not largely used in the woollen trade proper, it is still important to take the fact into consideration. The following table will illustrate the facts, and the prices quoted are for hogs and wethers in equal proportion : — EELATITB VALUES OP ENGLISH WOOL.
allowing an average advance, on the varieties named, of 75 per cent. — Leeds Mercury. * Should be 117J , and the average 64 per cent.
