Tbe Rangitoto, which arrived at Hokitika on the 23rd inst., brings later intelligence. Melboubn"-, April 18th. A horrible outrage, accompanied by robbery, has taken place at Footscray, the victim being a Miss Rule — a lady 70 years of age. The man is in custody. „ It is proposed to form a South Pacific Steam Navigation Company, with a capital of £200,000, and buy up M'Meckan and Blackwood's nine boats — that firm retaining an interest in the Company to the extent of £50,000. Feeny, for the murder of Marks, by shooting him in the Fitzroy Gardens, has been convicted and sentenced to death. He was perfectly unmoved throughout the trial, and heard the sentence with apparent indifference. An attempt is being made to show that Feeny was insane, but the sentence will in all probability be carried out. Flour is at £14 10s to £15 ; and wheat at 6s 7d. A further extension of the period of payment for four years, at a further percentage, has been substituted instead of residence by an employe being allowed.
