DUNEDIN. Messrs Driver, Stewart, & Co. report for the ■week ending 16th March 1 — Fat Cattle. — About 70 head were yarded, chiefly medium quality, only about half of which •were sold at prices barely up to late quotations. We sold 30 head at from £4 15s to £6 10s, or, »ay equal to 17s 6d per 100 lbs. We still quote really prime quality beef at 20s per 100 lbs. Privately, we have placed 25 head at £4 17s to £6 per head. S Fat Sheep. — About 200 wethers and 100 lambs ■were penned on Wednesday, and sold : wetbers at 7s to 78 6d, and lambs, 7s 6d to 8s each. We have placed about 50 half-breds at 12s each, 360 at 9a each, 20 lambs at 7s each, and our delivery consists of 1000 merino ewes and wethers, at lfd per lb. We quote present value prime mutton ■ 2d per lb. Store Cattle. — No transactions. Store Sheep. — The demand for all descriptions continues unabated, but there are very few lots offering, and transactions during the week have been quite tinimportant. We quote 2 and 4-tooth croßs-breds at 6s 6d ; cross-bred lambs, 6s ; merino wethers, 4 and 6-tooth, 4s 9d ; ewes, 4 and 6 tooth, 4s 6 J ; full mouthed ewes, 3s to 3s . 3d ; lambs, 4s each. . WooL — Owing to the detention of the San Francisco mail, we are without furt her advices from the home market. We held a public sale on Wednesday afternoon, the catalogue sub. . mitted comprising 616 bales. The proximity of the day to the date of despatch of the home mail interfered somewhat with the attendance of buyers ; nevertheless competition was fairly Bpirited, and full prices were realised for all lots disposed of. Several parcels were withdrawn for want of instructions, and for a few others the prices .offered did not come up to owners' expectations. At auction, 127 bales were sold, priced catalogue of which we annex ; and privately we have placed 76 bales greasy fleece at 13d ; 34 do do, at 14£ d j 46 do do, at Hid Triced catalogue : — ■ Greasy. — Mixed, Aylmer, 2 bales, 7fd ; crossbred, D&iMcD, 4 do, I4d ; pieces, D&AMcD, 15 do, 9s d ; fleece, SR, 1 do, 13; i ; do, dingy, 6R, 1 do, 9d; cross-bred, W, 2 do, 12|d ; pieces,. SR, 12 do, Bfd ; locks, SR, 3 do, 5d j fleece, dot in triangle over 88, 15 do, 11 id ; locks, dot in triangle over BB } 1 do, 4id ; fleece, B, 10 do, lid. Washed. — Pieces, B, 15 bales, llfd ; fleece, JS, 7 do, 16d ; do, S&F, 2 do, 15£ d; locks, do, 1 do, llf d ; pieces, do, 5 do, 13|d ; fleece, do, 31 do, 16id. Sheepskins- continue in excellent demand, the prices realised at auction ranging from 7£d to lid per lb. The Evening Star of the 16th inst. reports : — Town brands of flour meet with a good trade Bale at £12. Inferior kinds are dull at £9. Bran, in trade lots, is moving at £3 to £3 ss. Pollard is scarce at £4. Provincial potatoes are well supplied ; the price of good sorts is £6. Australian samples may be had at £4 10s to £5. Prime milling wheat is in active demand at 4s 6d. A few parcels have changed bands at rather higher rates. Fowl wheat is selling at 3s. Oats are very dull : feeding lots are offered at Is 9d to la lOd. The price for good milling is 2s to 2s 2d. Malting barley is scarce ; buyers are offering 4s 6d, but holders are wanting ss. Feeding sorts are not wanted. Straw, £2 10s. Hay, £3 10s. Chaff, £3 10s.
