The King and the Pope held rival receptions on New Year's Day in Home. The city is full of visitors. The Telegraphic Congress terminated on the 14th. The Deputies met on the 15th. The tax on new textile fabrics excites considerable opposition. The War Minister proposes the construction of a small-arms factory in central Italy, and the fortification of Elba, Sardinia, and Sicily. Several steamers are projected to ply between Naples and America. Father Hyacinthe is about to publish a new periodical in Borne as the organ of the old Catholic section.
