The Argus of the 29th ult. reports : — In the import market to-day a fair amount of business haa been gofc through. Flour continues to maintain great firmness, and sales for trade purposes were made at £12 15s for town made. Country brands are quoted at up to £12 10s for small lots, and amongst the sales effected we hear of a line of 50 tons having been placed afc £12 7s 6d. Wheat is very firm indeed, and indications of a further riae are perceptible. As manh aa 5s 7d waa obtained privately for a amall lot of prime quality ; under the hammer, 5a 6£d was got tor very prime, and 5s for medium About 2000 bushela, including inferior, were cleared off by auction. In oats we learn of parcels to the extent of 3000 bushels having been sold publicly at prices ranging from 2s 9d to 3s 3d for fee ling sorts, and a smaU parcel of malting barley realised i the extreme figure of 4a lid. Sugars are still very active. Fine brewing crystals have been quitted at £39. We hear of about 1500 mats fine Java white crystals having bedn taken up in two lines. The balance of the Tasso's cargo of Mauritius, about 1500 baga more, is also stated to have changed hands at very fu 1 figures. Altogether, much firmness is evinced in the market. We understand that the balance of the Boedhi Rajah rice imported some time ago haa been cleared out ; we quote for small parcels up fco £22. Sales of 1870 Kent hops afc la lid have been effected. Teaa are nofc active ; business, however, is reported in fine congous, a line of half-cheats having been placed at 2s. In liquids, we leavn of fche quittance of a shipment of Aitken'a bottled ale at 9s 6d, and one of Byass's bottled stout haa been taken up at 9s 3d.
