RAILWAY TRAFFIC RETURNS.

The following are the Southland raUway traffic returns for the month ending 29fch ult: — InvercargiU —

D. Maceokie, auctioneer, reports : — Mr Grant's rooms were completely filled on Tuesday, when Mr Surman's things were being put to the hammer, and on the whole prices were satisfactory. Some lots were sold below the rates which might have been anticipated from the high class condition, such as a rosewood Alexandre harmonium for £9 10s ; other articles, such as couch, £5 sa, chests drawers, £3 3a, were weU competed for. Some high-claaa literature also changed hands, and attracted attention. The horses were yarded on the high lands, and brought from £6 to £16. The cattle— 32 head — as previously advised, were sold privately afc £3 per head. £48 was the highest bid for the section and 2 cottages, Riverton township, and were withdrawn. InvercargUl, March 7, 1872.

H. E. Oslbolbne, auctioneer, reports : — The aaie of furniture, cattle, &c, at the residence of Capt. Ihomson, PUot Station, BlufF Harbor, on the 4th inst., was very weU attended, and the prices obtained satisfactory. Hair-seated chairs brought 27a each ; pianoforte, £24 ; wardrobe, £8 5s j sideboard, £5 12s 6d • hair-seated sofa, £7 5a ; sewing machine, £13 ; side saddle, £11 ; dining table, £5 10s 5 cheat drawers, £6 ; feather beds, £4 ; lady's pony, £10 ; cows, £4 5a each. All the China and glassware, kitchen sundries, and several China and Japanese curiosities commanded good bidding. At the sale of machinery on the sth inst., the following prices were realised, viz., Cornish Bteam boUer, 10 H.P., £25 ; boring rod, £14 j vertical boring machine, £44 ; wool press, £10 ; weighing machine, £2 10s ; corrugated iron (old), 2s 6d per sheet, and aU the sundry lota were well competed for. 1 have closed the sale, which has bean for some time pending, of section 1, block XV., InvercargiU Hundred, containing 62 aires, for £450 cash.
