H. E. Osborne, auctioneer, reports the sale of • quarter acre section and cottage in Yarrow •treat for £100. The sale of cattle at Wallacetown on the 6th inst., was attended by a few ■experienced buyers, and although the sale was unreserved, and the cattle of fair quality and ■oondition, there was little or no inclination on the part of those present to buy. All were sold, however, but at prices that showed plainly that -cattle are unsaleable, with very little hope of improvement. The approach of the winter reason will confirm this opinion, and holders of «attle out of condition who are expecting to sell to the preserving companies, will be disappointed. The continued demand for our meatß in Europe will depend upon the quality that is exported, and to compete in the large cities with the newlytilled meat, an improvement on that which has hitherto been exported, and principally consumed by the army, win have to be studied. The cattle advertised for the 27th are withdrawn till further notice. The following are the prices realised at my last sale : — Cows, with calves at foot, 26s eaoh ; yearlings, 10a each ; 2 year old heifers, 26s each ; steers, 24s ; horses, from £3 to £5. Inrercargill, Bth Feb. 1872.
