CUSTOMS RETURNS.
The following has been collected as Customs Revenue during the week ending the 27th inst: —
H. E. Osborne, auctioneer, reports the sale of sections 35 and 36, block 2, Tnvercargill Hundred, containing 107 acres, tor £115. D. Macboeie, auctioneer, reports : — On Saturday, the yards were well attended, but the horse market exhibited the usual want of animation, two lots changing hands, one' being a spring cart colt for £9. The highest bids for the English dog carts were £24 and £25 respectively, and are still held for advances, and I received offers for the reaping machines, one of which is pending, £32 being my price. The sections in Wallacefcown all changed hands at from £3 12s to £4 4s. That at Gladstone, close to Waihopai Bridge, realised £10. The sections at Mabel and Spar Bush, not having been announced in more than one issue, were not competed for. The Canterbury cheese proved without exception to be a uniformly prime sample, and brought from 5d to sidj but I was not provided with sufficient attendance to move the lot, and I have still a considerable stock worthy of attention at these rates. The market continues to be supplied with purchasers of all descriptions of sheep, but vendors are very firm in their demands, and though transactions are pending, I have no completed negotiations to report. Cattle attract but little attention, but the improvement on our local rates offered by the Preserving Company at Green Island, will be an encouragement to those graziers who are occupied in fattening. Invercargill, 29th January, 1872.
