CUSTOMS RETURNS.

The following has been collected as Customs Revenue during the week ending the 20th met: —

D. Mackoeie, auctioneer, reports : — The transactions during the last fortnight have shown a decrease, which arises from a difficulty in bringing buyer and seller to one mind in price, more especially as regards the stock now in most demand. It is quite apparent that sheep ot all descriptions are eagerly enquired for at a price, as i am furnished with abundance of buyers, but holders are firm in asking high rates. I moved off several small mobs cf ram lambs, some represented as Leicesters, and others crossed ■with Lincoln blood, at 425 ; 4 tooths at £5 os, and have sold also about 700 lull mouthed merino ewes. These may be quoted as store sheep at from 2s 6d to 3s 6d, according to quality, with corresponding advance for wethers up to 4s 9d. fialf-breds are more eagerly sought, some holders asking as much as 8s 6d for mixed lots. The 100 head store cattle previously advised were approved of, but owing to a hasty muster, only 85 head were accepted. I have submitted offers for grain, about Is 9d for prime oats, in large lots, but this price is not encouraging to growers. lnvercargill, 22nd January, 1872.
