Cr. Pratt moved that the letter be remitted to the solicitor to be dealt with as he might think fit in the interests of the corporation. Cr. Garth waifce seconded the motion. Cr. Boss moved as an amendment, that no notice should be taken of the letter, fiirtfoer than acknowledging its receipt. Cr. Jaggers seconded the amendment. After discussion, the motion was carried ty a majority of one. For the lease of the Inve^cargill Jetty and Powder Magazine, two tenders were received and opened, viz , one of £85 per annum, from Mr T. J. Thompson, en condition that the tariff on the Bluff line was continued at its ■present rate. If reduced, a corresponding reduction to be made in the rent The other was that of Messrs Pay and Campbell, offering £150, which was accepted. Messrs "Wood, Garth waite, Ross, and Goodwillie, were appointed a cemetery committee. The question of organising a Fire Brigade was held over for consideration by the Council in committee. " After discussion it was agreed that the following motion, standing in the name of Cr. Garthwaite, be postponed for one month : — That a sum "of £20 be offered for the most suitable sketch-plan for improving those portions of the public gardens reserves fronting Forth, Tyne, and other streets.
