MELBOURNE.
The Argut ofthe 31st ult. reports :— Business has been extremely quiet, and the week closed with a most unsatisfactory appearance of heaviness and want of activity. Breadstuff are firmer again, holders having refused to offer flour at the lower rates of £12 55., at which sales were effected on Friday. Our quotations of £12 15s to £13 for best brands remain, however, unaltered. Wheat is disposed of in small lots at 5s 9d to 5s lOd for prime Wangaratta, and 5b 6d to 5b 7d for ordinary Victorian samples. In oats we do not see much activity. Quotations range at trom 3s 5d to 3s 6d for ordinary samples ; prime qualities are saleable in quantity at 3s 7d to 3s 8d and 3s 9d. Maize is moving off at 4s 5d to 4s 6d in trade parcels.
