■ » ■ — ■ : ' • We have Wellington intelligence to the 6th :— The plant for the gas-works arrived in the Firth of Clyde. A proclamation has been issued, proroguing Parliament to Nov. 10. Nine of the G-othenburg's seamen have been committed for refusing to obey orders in Lyttelton and on the passage up here. The ' captain had to steer the ship himself, the two officers with two men working her up. Mr G-eorge Swanson, a surveyor, was found dead in his bed in the hotel at Masterton. Three distinct but not very severe shocks of earthquake in rapid succession were felt at 2.15 p.m. on the 3rd. A messenger from, Makariki, Waikaremoana Lake, states that sickness prevails amongst the Urewera tribes. Mohi, a Wairoa native, who went with Makarini, died from sickness. The natives are in dread that the chiefs death should be attributed to murder. Makarini is coming to surrender 80, men. Te Kooti is reported to be at Tewara, and Te \Varu at Rnatahuna.
