COMMERCIAL.

I). Macrorie, Auctioneer, reports : — The lapt sale of stock which could, be held in the Province of Southland (on the st,h) only barely deserved the name. The weather was boisterous, and there was almost an entire absence of either buyers or audience. About sixty head of cattle were yarded, but not all which were advised. There was little or no bidding for dairy or young stock. [ sold one cow (to calve in about three weeks) for £4 10s; another cow, considerably advanced in age, but quite capable of fattening, changed hands for 7s 6d ; £3 3s wa« offered and declined for three-year-old steers. I sold privately, subject to approval, a lot of nearly 100 Btores (all steers) at £4 per head. InTercargill, 6th October, 1870.

The Oamaru Times reports the market quiet, and no transactions worthy of vote. Grain and breadstuffa are quoted as follows : — Wheat, 43 6d to 4s 8d ; oats, 2s 8d to 2s lOd ; barley, no quotation ; flour, £12 10s to £13 : oatmeal, £17 to £18 ; potatoes, dull of sale, £1 17s 6d. The above prices are well maintained. A sale of grain from this district, has been made in Auckland, at the following rates : — Barley, 3s 6d to 4s ; oats, 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; wheat, 4s 5d ; flour £16. This ia very satisfactory when it is remembered that Oamaru flour has been sold in Auckland not so very long ago at from £9 10s to £11 10s, and, allowing for the advance of the market, the price now obtained goes to Bhow that really welldressed flour will always command a good price.
