LONDON FLAX REPORT.
Messrs Manning, Collyer & Co. report : — The alight improvement noticed in our last report (15th June) has continued. The demand for good and fine qualities has improved, and prices have advanced £2 to £3 per ton, but common qualities are difficult of sale, even at dower prices, and several small parcels have been cleared off at a decline to close accounts. Only the medium and fine qualities are likely to realise satisfactory prices, arid attention should be principally directed to "these, care being taken to ship the flax really wtell cleaned, and the fibre clear and bright like the best native dressed ; even £42 .to £45 per ton might be obtained for such in large quautities. Arrivals during .the month .about 3500 bales. About 3400 bales flax, and 300 bajes tow, have been offered at public sale, of which about 1000 bales flax and nearly all J;hp_tpw_sold at the prices quoted on list herewith. The stock, ; including that in dealers' hands, was about 1103 i tons on the Ist July, while Manilla hemp was only 1150 tons against about 1800 tons last year. Priceß realised at public sale, July 14th. : — Per Glenmark, from Lyttelton : Flaxbourne Mills, at £24 per ton ; Sefton, £23 10a ; SP, £13 ;K, £13 15s • P and C, £20 ; EFR, £16. Per Otago : JH, ' at £17 per ton ; EK, £14 5s ; C, £12 10s. Per Mangalore: JSH, at £18 5s per ton. Per England, from Auckland : P and F, at £19 per ton : CAM, £22 15s. Per Asterope, from Dunedin : SA, at £11 10s per ton ; Fairfax Flax Works, M'Laren and Streeting, £10 10s. Per Melita : R and P, £22 15s per ton ; RG, m diamond, £29 10a. Per Oriental, from Melbourne CM, fine, at £28 10s per ton ' — „— good, £25 105. Per Excelsior : E Constable, at £29 per ton ; HM, £23 15s. Per Electra : A, at £14 5b per ton.
