Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. report for the week ending 20th August, 1870, as follows : — Ifet <?attle.—-The arrivals this week consisted of about 70 head, which found ready sale at from 22s 6d to 25s per lOOlbs. These rates may be taken as current quotations. . Fat Sheep.—The'demand continues good. We sold at auction a draft of 600 merino wethers, very good quality, from Messrs M'Kellar'a station, Tapanui, which realised,lls each, or equal to 3d per = lb. Prime half-bred muttcn is worth 3^l per lb ; merino do, 2f d to 3d. Store Cattle.—With the exception of enquiries ...for small lots for paddock fattening, there is little demand. 'We have several fine lots in our hands for sale: We quote steers three to four years old, £4 to £4 5s ; mixed cattle, £3 to £3 ss.' Store Sheep.-r-We have a great many enquiries for good'store wethers, both half-breds and merinos, but prices offered do not bring; buyers forward. We quote half-bred wether, 7s tq 7s 6d ; merinp do, 5s 3d.t0.5s 6d; mixed lambs, 8s to 8s 6d per pair. ] Horses.—Good yonng draught stock meet with ready sale, but there is no improvement in ;the demand for: light and inferior horses. Quotations remain without alteration.. ' Grain.—Wheat is a little more in request, and - ifon-r recent-advicesirom-Melbourne, we anticipate an advance in .value. , Pate are firm .at recent quotations. Barley is'still inactive.
