Sydney, June 14. Two nuggets, weighing 90oz and 30oz respectively, have been found at the new diggings, at G-ulgong. '. ; Portions of the Lizzie Coleson's wreck have been discovered near Newcastle. Tbe attempt to construct a line of telegraph between G-abo and Cape Howe has been unsuccessful. Another plan is likely to be adopted. : June. 15. The Exhibition Building is progressing rapidly. The applications for space by intending exhibitors exceed expectation. The Hon. Mr Bobertson has definitely declined resuming office at present. His refusal will not, however, interfere with Ministers attending the conference. M.v Owens will be appointed Acting Premier during Mr Cowper's absence. The reduced telegraph charges will commence from the Ist of July. The minimum charge from Sydney to Melbourne will be la, and to Adelaide 6s, for 10 words. . . June 16. There are 151 entries for the Intercolonial Wine Exhibition, but none are from Victoria. Later Fiji advices state that King Thakombau had despatched a strong force against the rebels. The British, consul's conduct in compelling the King to surrender a captured schooner belonging to the rebel chief is warmly censured by the Fiji Times. June 18. The French transport Euryale has been wrecked on Starbuck Island. The passengers and crew have been saved. . The Eli Whitney, which left Tahiti for Melbourne towards the end of April, has, it is supposed, met with, foul play, but the authorities are unable to bring home a charge of incendiarism against tbe crew; June 20. The schooner Clara has been wrecked at Soleon. : The Chamber of Commerce recommend the worn silver coinage question to the consideration of the Intercolonial Conference. , , ' - June 21. The Government have appointed a Law Tieform Commission, .of which the Chief Justice has been gazetted president, and-, the law officers, Mr Butler and Sir James Martin, members. The full Court have decided that no civil action lies as between volunteer and officer for any act performed under the powers given by the Volunteer Act.
