Adelaide, April 16. CaptainNbel Osborn, before proceeding to the other colonies, is waiting here to ascertain the result; of a proposal by the Government to construct a line from [ Port Augusta to Port Darwin, or from [ the latter point to our eastern border. He is hot committed to the Queensland i route, but while here will take time to ! i ascertain which is the best. He has no connexion with Prazer's scheme. April 20. A collision occurred, yesterday evening, at the Port, when the City of Dublin ran into the steamers Lubra and Coorong, which were lyijfcg at the wharf. Both of these steamers were injured considerably. The G-overnment schooner Gulnare is to sail for the Northern Territory on ! Monday, with Captain Douglas as the | Government Kesident in command of the I settlement at Port Darwin. Government intend calling for tenders for a steamer to keep up communication with the new township in process of being formed there. The drawing for the order of selection will probably take place in Adelaide. April 21. The Congregational Union have passed a resolution by a large majority, affirming that Government education should be secular only. Mr Whiting, a squatter on the Barrier Tfanges, has sent on an overland trip to i the northern territory, a number of horses, cattle, and sheep. He follows them himself in a few days, and will commence a station near Park, the new township of Port Darwin. April 2 Mr Howe, formerly a bootmaker in Hindley-street, committed suicide this morning by shooting himself. The man Goode, who was injured during the late disturbances caused by

1 the unemployed when the mounted ponce charged the mob with drawn sabres, has withdrawn his case for damages against Inspector Searcy, and left it to the Q-overnment to settle the matter out of court. A writ has been served on Mr Blakemore, secretary of Crown lands, on behalf of the Northern Territory Company, for the return of their money paid for land orders. A private vessel is advertised to start shortly for the Northern Territory, the owners having the idea of afterwards employing her in trading between Port Darwin, Timor, and other Dutch settlements. The Aymar sailed yesterday for San Francisco, taking 160 German and Irish colonists. The corn market is firm, but without change. ; April 23. A good deal of interest has been called forth by the proposition of an overland telegraph to Port Darwin j in connexion with Captain Osborne's scheme* ; The corn market is very firm in consequence of so little wheat offering.
