Sydney, April 21. A message from the Governor to the Assembly recommends another £10,000 for the superannuation fund. The Assembly is discussing a proposal of the Government to borrow £1,200,000 for the purpose of extending the railway lines. Another deputation of unemployed visited the Government offices to day, when the Premier referred them to the police authorities. April 22. In consequence of the Legislative Assembly being evenly divided upon the Eailway Committee's report, the Government have withdrawn the railway extension scheme for the present. The Australian Mutual Provident Society's twenty-first annual report has just been issued. The new premiums exceed £22,000. The businees of the Victorian branch is greatly in excess of that of the previous years. . James Wakefield has been sentenced to death at Bathurst for the murder of a shepherd named Harry, whom he stabbed near Mudgee on the Bth of March last. The Sparkling Dew, from San Francisco, has brought a cargo of breadstuff's, and dates to February 26. Flour was then quoted at $4 50c. to $4 75c, with few transactions; wheat, $1 40 c. to $1 65 c. The Henry Adderley had been chartered to load lumber for the colonies. California papers to the 26th February state that the New. York authorities had been informed of a plot to assassinate Prince Arthur and had arrested several suspected persons. The Cuban insurgents were gaining ground. . m ; The Mexican revolution continues; Negrete has defeated the Government forces, and intended to attack the capital. The senior member of the firm of Harper Brothers, the well known publishers, is dead. Several large failures have occurred at New York. , April 23. The Government will introduce the Appropriation Bill on Tuesday. The Immigration Bill is likely to be postponed till next session. The wet weather is preventing many persons attending the races who otherwise would proceed to the course. The rivers are still rising. The flood has interrupted communication on the northern telegraph line. The Hunter rose six feet to-day. The Western Kerosene Works have been started. It is expected they will turn out 6,ooogals. weekly. The City of Melbourne takes a full complement of passengers by the Pacific route to England.
