(fbom our ows cokbespondeht.) April 20, 1870. Yesterday, Mr P. Grant offered at public auction the race and all belonging to the Longwood Water Bace and Ground Sluicing Company. It ia presumed to hare cost-some £900, and yesterday, at the fall of the auctioneer's hammer, Mr Petchell was the purchaser at the paltry figure of £50, notwithstanding many are yet sanguine of great results. Last evening the Church of England' concert took place ia the fine hall of the Oddfellows, when, notwithstanding the disagreeable evening, the body of the hall was completely filled with a highly respectable audience, who listened with attention to the " sweet music" discoursed. Mr Q. R. Marten commenced proceedings with BeethoTen's " Triumphal March," from the sth Symphony, which was admirably played. The first part of the programme, which 'was sacred; went welL The secular part, the second, waa rerjr long, in consequence of some 7 or 8 encores The opening piano duet was exquisitely, played. ■ Bemarkable sweetness and precision were displayed in " I've wandered in Dreams," and must be heard from the same performer to be fully understood. " Her Bright Smile Haunts me Still," by Mr Marten, was a perfect gem. Too much credit cannot be given to that gentleman, for the rery excellent manner in which all was brought before the public. '
