LIFE ASSURANCE.
(TO THB EDITOB OF THB TIMES.)
Sib,— l have looked at the tables published by the New Zealand Government for life assurance with an eye to business. I notice the rates are a few shillings per cent, lower than those charged by some other offices, but as I do not see any mention of bonuses in the prospectus issued by the G-overnment, I presume it is not intended to give bonuses to the assured in the G-overnment office. I find from the tables of various offices, and such calculations as I am able to make, that in a well-conducted mutual life assurance society, with a moderate business, a policy will double itself in about 17 years. "As profit is not the object of the Government," there can be no harm in my asking working men especially to calculate whether the lower rate of the Government will compensate the assured for the loss of the large additions which mutual offices make periodially in the way of bonus. — I am, &c, Assitbeb.
