A COMPLAINT.
(TO THB BDITOB OV THE T1M83.)
Sib, — What is the reason the butchers are keeping up the price of meat ? It is high time it should be lowered. Meat is much cheaper in Otago than here ; but the butchers seem to have their own way in this place. It is no joke for a man with a large family to live now-a-days. I think a co-operative store would be the means of supplying the wants of the working classes much cheaper than at present. A good many say that the wages are too high, but, sir, I contend that unless a man has a moderate rate of wages he cannot do at all. Talk about saving ! it's out of the question. Working men can hardly get enough to pay their way. Where things are high, wages should be the. same ; those who cry down the rate of wages should also do the same to the butchers and others, and in fact the clothing, and boots and shoes are far too high, according to the present circulation of money. With these few remarks, lam, &c, A Son of Toil.
