The River -Hawkesbury is 20 feet above its ordinary level, and is still rising six inches an hour.' The River Hunter, at Maitland, has risen 30 feet, and is still rising. The working men. employed at the lunatic asylum, and who were sent there by the Government, as, they, complained of inability to obtain other work, have refused to continue working at the wages offered -by the Government; March 16. The schooner Gulnare arrived yesterday morning from Port Darwin, -in the Northern Territory, via Sydney. The news she brings is of little interest beyond that which has already been published. The Opposition have issued a manifesto signed by 13 of the leading members, denying the charge of factious opposition and place hunting, and accusing' the Government of falsehood ih the prorogation speech. The elections are' attracting very general attention, and a; large /number of local men are now offering themselves as candidates in the various districts. Letters have been received by the Brindisi route, showing a sawing of three clear days as compared with the mail via Marseilles. Andrew Vere, charged with the murder of Mr Cheale, at St. Arnaudi has been remanded till Tuesday, to await the arrival of the warrant from Melbourne. He has fully confessed to the murder. The Bushman's Home is now. iairly established. The corn market is quiet.
