Hobabt Towir, Feb. 5. The Executive Council to-day made the judicial arrangements necessary on Sir Valentine Fleming's retirement. Mr Justice Smith succeeds to the chief justiceship. Mr Dobson, the Attor-ney-Q-eneral, is made a puisne judge. Mr "W. Bi G-iblin becomes the°new ' Attorney-G-eneral and member of Executive Council. The writ for the city has been issued ; nominations close 9th, and polling 14th. Mr GKblin is not likely to be opposed. Feb. 8. A telegram has been received by the Colonial Treasurer from Mr .Ritchie, of the firm of Eitchie and Parker, Launcesfcon, in which he confirms the news of the Bank Creek alluvial goldfields, Piper's Eiver. He says that experienced miners pronounce it payable and the beßt yet seen in Tasmania. The washing stuff is on the surface down, to a depth of several feet. Feb. 10. .Tames Baymond and James "Williams, changed with defrauding their creditors, have been remanded to Melbourne, and sent by the Southern Cross. The market for wheat has a downward* tendency, and is quoted at 55. ; Cape barley, 3s, 6d. ; oats, 35. ; hay, £3 ss. Feb. 11. Mr Daniel Smith, of Selma, has consented to be nominated for Campbell Town, to succeed Mr Dobson. The value of the cargo of the ship "Windward, sailed for London, is upwards of £40,000. LATracBSTON, Feb. 11. The report that a nugget weighing three ounces has been found near Ilfracombe, West Tamar, wants confirmation.
