SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

Adelaide, Nov. 11. At the meeting of the municipal council last night, Mr John Solomon was elected mayor. Messrs Townsend, Botting and Kaye sold at auction to-day the cargo of Mauritius sugars, ex Escape, at an advance of 20s per ton on late rates. November 13. Very satisfactory news has been received from the Morowie mine. The farmers are now cutting their crops of English barley. The breadstuffs market is dull, and there are no transactions to report in wheat. November 15. The Government schooner Gulnare arrived to-day from Port Darwin with news to the 28th of September. Mr Goyder, the superintendent of the party (with forty others), has returned in the vessel, and reports very favorably of the prospects. One hundred men were left at the settlement under the direction of Dr. Peel, the surveys having been completed before the Gulnare sailed. The country is described as splendid, with plenty of timber and water. The party had also found copper, tin, and iron, and Mr Goyder has brought to Adelaide several specimens of gold. The natives proved somewhat troublesome at first, and killed Mr 'Bennett, the draftsman to the survey party, and also wounded an axeman named Guy, who was engaged felling timber. The remainder of the men are well. Several roads have been made, and the jetty for the accommodation of shipping was nearly finished. Mr Goyder's despatches were published in the evening papers, and were) considered highly favorable, but there is no extra demand for laud orders. A man named Hayard, employed as a cook at the settlement, died from natural causes. A scene occurred to-day, at a meeting of the Corporation, in which Mr Raphael made himself conspicuous, and the Mayor was forced to adjourn. The corn market is very quiet. Wheat is 5s 6d to 5s 7d ; flour, £11 10s to .£l3 10s
