IiAUNCEBTOTK, 17th Oct. Hr Linley Norman, professor of music, died suddenly last night from the bursting of a blood vessel. Gold has been struck in No. 6 North Claim, Waterhouse. At the new reef in the Union Company's claim, Fingal, a small nugget, about the size of a pea, was taken out of a piece of quartz. It is raining heavily. Oct. 18th. The commissiener delivered judgment to-day in re White's insolvency. He considered the opposition had not been sustained, but he declined to sign tbe composition until he should have ascertained from the Attorney-General whether by so doing he would prejudice the appeal of which notice had been given. Heavy rains and floods bave occurred. The weather is sultry. Hobart Town, Oct. 13. Mr Whyte in the Legislative Council, and Mr Davis in the Legislative Assembly, will preaent the joint report of the committee on the Launceston and Western Bailway. The report is condemnatory of the management, and recommends a further advance to complete the line, with restrictions on the engineers and directors. A Bill for the purpose accompanies the report. The American whaleship Eliza Adams, out since 12th July, has now 39 tuns of oil. Oct. 18th. Parliament sat for a short time to-day, and the Scab in Sheep Bill was finally passed. The Governor has altered his intention of proroguing by commission. He returns from the Midland Show, and will prorogue on TJYiday. The wheat market is stagnant ; holders are asking 7s. Potatoes are down to £4, 155. Oct. 19th. Salmon were unmistakeably seen in the Derwent, near the Falls, on Saturday last, and again yesterday. Parties have gone out angling.
