The advocates of re-union with Ofcago have systematically stated that that province was always in a position to supplement any object that had a claim upon the public funds. As a , refutation to this statement, we publish the subjoined letter, which has just been received by the hon. Secretary to .the Southland Acclimatisation Society, showing that our neighbor has not such a plethora of wealth as some would make us believe. It may also be observed, in passing, that the Duriodin officials seem to be rather slow in attending to our communications just now. What will they be when we form part of themselves ? By not joining Southland in procuring a further supply of ova, all they have already spent on this object is simply thrown away. In view, however, of falling heir to Southland's grant-ma-id (£2000), they can afford to be indifferent : — Superintendent's Office, Dunedin, 11th October, 1869, Sir — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16th Sept., 1869, and to acquaint you in reply, that this Government has no funds at its disposal to devote to a further shipment of salmon ova.
