WASTE LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Waste Land Board was held at the Land Office, on Tuesday, the 11th inst. Present ; Chief Commissioner, Chief Surveyor, Messrs Dundas, M'Arthur, and Blacklock, Com> missioners. Richard James applied for 100 acres in the Aparima Hundred. John Blue, for 56 acres, New River Hundred. Geo. Brown, for 82 acres, New River Hundred. All these applications were granted, and paid for in land certificated. Job. Rogers applied for 40 acres on run 214. Refused, not being in accordance with the regulations. John Elliott applied for 2000 acres in the Waimumu Hundred. Granted. Mr Dalglieah, as agent for Mr Elliott, requested the postponement of a decision on the application, stating he was not sure of a boundary line, but would be prepared to determine it on Friday next. Messrs Baker, Dundas, M'Arthur, and Blacklock, /oted for the postponement of the consideration. The Chief Commissioner protested against the postponement, on the ground that no application should be allowed to be postponed, unless at the desire of the the Board to enable it to have time to determine whether it was injurious to the public interests to grant it ; that it was unfair to shut up land from the public, because an applicant did not describe his boundaries correctly, and contrary to the spirit and intention of the " Land Act," which stated that immediately on the application being granted, the money was to be paid. The Board then adjourned till Friday, (this day).
