PORT OF WELLINGTON.

ABBIVBD. Feb 23 — Wellington, s.s., from Picton. SAILED. Feb. 22— Lord Ashley, s.s., for South. Feb. 22 — Omeo, s.s., for Greymouth. Leaky Vessel.— The barque Prospector, from Newcastle, bound to Valparaiso, with a cargo of coal, which put in here on the 7th inst. in a leaky state, has dischwged her cargo, and Captain Thomson, her commander, expected that his vessel would have been taken into th» Floating Dock yesterday for* an examination and repairs. Pre-arrangements, however, having been made by telegram for the docking of the s.s. Wanganui, which arrived in the evening, the dock company would not take the barque in until the steamer was finished. Capt Thomson feels chagrined in the matter, as, on springing the leak, he at once made up his mind to come to this port, where he knew there was dock accommodation for his vessel. Otherwise he would have steered a course for Auckland, where his vessel could have been taken on the slip. From the foregoing, a question in point arises, whether a vessel putting in at our port in a leaky condition, or a steamer requiring" her bottom cleaned and painted, Bhould have the preference of the dock. If there are no rules laid down for the working of the dock, the eooner they are the better, and made publicly known.— ' Daily Times,' Feb. 20.
