PRESBYTERT OF SOUTHLAND.
The ordinary quarterly meeting of the "Bnjiltj* tery of Southland was held in the restry of the Presbyterian Church here, on the 7th instant, »t noon. ,-... t, Present— Revs. Andrew Stevens, moderator; dark, Alexander, and Stobo, ministers ; and Messrs Macarthur, Fullarton, Campbell and M'Hrick, elders. ' • ■' Mr Stobo reported that ha had advertiaed agreeably to instructions given for a colporteur, and that the Committee had received five applications, one of which from Mr Paul A. Detlesseh, they had entertained favorably, but that in all the circumstances they had not ventured to undertake the responsibility of Betting the enterprise a foot. It was agreed to re-appoint the Ctag* mittee, and instruct' them to endeavor to malt* arrangements to find employment for Mr I^etlesseri, either on Stewart's Island or anywhere else within the Province. : . . ' It was unanimously resolved that the Presbytery, having received no communication ■ from Queenstown, take no present action regarding it, bat leave it to the Church Extension Committ»» tq_Bend supply, should such be. requjred-rljelore. next meeting of Presbyter? . JVwaa agreed ncjt to ask the Church Extension Committee, io tupply Mataura in the meantime, but instruct tra clerk to direct the attention of that Committee id the peculiar difficulties of the district v with a view to find suitable supply. .. The Presbytery, having heard a verbal report from Mr M' Arthur, Convenor of the Sabbath Observance Committee, agreed to discharge the Committee and record its thanks to the Con* venor. Mr M'Arthur moved— " That Waikiva, east and west be added to ; and that Winton Btuh, and Forest Hill districts be now disjoined from the present ministerial charge of Wauapetoiwa. It was stated by the mover that as are presently no more sittings to be had in the Churchiiat Invercargill some relief " n "|^ t , j* given if a?.
