General Grant and Mr Oolfax have accepted the nomination of the Chicago Republican convention — the former as President of the United States, and the latter as Vice-President. The appointment of General Schofield as Secretary for War, made by the President during the impeachment proceedings, has been confirmed by the Senate. The Senate has also passed Stephens' bill, which was agreed to by the House of Representatives, providing for the admission of North and South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama to representation:* in Congress, on condition that the Constitution of those states Bhall never be altered to .deprive of the suffrage those now entitled to vote.

The Senate has also passed a vote of thanks, by 32 to 11, to Mr Stanton for his public services ; but, by 30 to 11, refused a vote of thanks to Judge Chase for hia conduct during the impeachment trial. The Jefferson Davis trial has been postponed till November. The President has nominated Reverdy Johnson as Minister to Great Britain. The managers of the impeachment case, immediately after the vote had been taken, commenced proceedings with a view to show that bribery and corruption had been at work to affect the vote, and arrested "Woolley, & Democratic agent and witness.
