Times Office, Saturday Evening. The following are the Customs Returns for —
< Eitssblli & M'CoiiouffH report : — We are enabled this week to furnish particulars of our sale at Woodlands Station, which received a fair amount of attention at the hands of purchasers, it being a fact worthy of mention that in most cases it is considerably to the advantage of holders to sell on the ground where stock is necessary less injured by extra handling, and where intending buyers can count on having opportunity of a genuine inspection. Hobses. — A large number o£ horses have changed hands during the week, realising prices highly satisfactory to vendors. Those offered by the company were well known, and disposed of at the following rates : — Hacks, from £14 < o £25 ; Draught, from £27 to £62. On Saturday we had not many head in the yards, but these (hacks only) found purchasers at similar quotations. To-morrow will be a fine opportunity for contractors and others supplying themselves with drays and horses well up to heavy draught purposes — the property of Messrs M'Menamin Bros. • Sheep. — Our anticipations regarding the Leicester ewes were fully realised, as they brought over 30s per head. Cattle. — We have no alteration to advise, either in prices or demand ; holders are not inclined to abate, and there seems but little inclination to speculate to any extent. Peopebttes. — We are about closing the sale of a station on the Otago side, particulars of which will appear next week. Mbbchakdisb continues very dull of sale, trade being limited to the fulfillment of a few country orders. Invercargill, 31st July, 1868. A. J. Smith and Go. report : — Since the date of our last business is unaltered in aspect, and we have no reason to complain of dullness at this season of the year, our Saturday's sales have been well attended, and fair prices realized. Next Saturday we shall offer a few superior bred horses, cows, &c., which will afford a good opportunity to parties in want of such as they are for absolute sale. Fat Cattie — Are in fair demand, dealers are desirous of securing prime quality beef, which may be quoted at 43s to 45s per cwt, not a very large number ot first class bullocks are offering so we may look forward to firm rates.
Fat Calves — Are very scarce and in good demand at £3 10s to £4 average weights. !Fat Sheep — Are offering as is usual at this season, at slightly easier rates ; we do not look for any material alteration for some time to come ; average price 15s to 17s, weights 50 to 55 lbs. Milch Cows — With calves at foot, are very scarce and enquired for every day. Woekin& Bullocks — We have orders for a few teams of 6 each an^ none on hand at present. Hobses — The market is well supplied for this season of the year ; young draught mares and fillies are most asked for j of these we expect a consignment from Melbourne to arrive shortly ; we have disposed of several hacks privately at from £18 to £24. Hides — Are freely offering at 6s. 3?abm Pbodtjce — The marketis not overstocked, and the following are readily obtained for large parcels — oats 23 6d to 2s 9J ; chaff, £5 10s ; hay £4.
