COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Tikes Office, Saturday Evening. For some time past business has been somewhat quiet. The heavy hubs of the past few days I have prevented much traffic on the roads, and trade has been confined to the supply of the j-nmediate neighbourhood. The engagements of the month hare passed off" very satisfactorily, and the general aspect of bus-ness matters, if not leading to the expectation of early activity, is in every instance that of soundness and stab : * ; ty. Then, has been an almost utter absence of speculation, and imports have been regulated with reference either to immediat >, or shortly prospective wants. As a consequence stocks in hands, except in the instances of few articles, are but average. Flour, Adelaide, is held firmly at £28 to £29, colonial ia quoted at £22. Oats show a trifling advance on previously named prices, and potatees of good and sound quality, realise from £7 to £8 per ton. Inspirits and beer, both in bulk aud glass, very little variation has occurred, and the trade is well supplied with eveiy article excepting geneva, (J. D. K. Z.) of wfrch the Btocks are still light. General groceries are becoming rather light in stock, sterekeepers depending oa direct shipments from Home, expecteu shortly to arrive. Stocks in the meantime bei v replenished from Otago and Victoria, In tob^j "* the market is moderately well supplied.
