Eeturning Officer duly appointed for the election of a Member for the said Southern Maori Electoral District, and the time therein limited for the return of such writ was the twenty-eighth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight. And whereas the sixth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight, was duly appointed as the day on which a poll should be taken, but unforeseen difficulties and delays have arisen in taking the said poll at Ruapuke, one of the duly appointed polling places within and for the said electoral district : Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, doth hereby extend the time allowed for holding the election of a Member of the House of Representatives for the Southern Maori Electoral District aforesaid, until the fifteenth day of July, and with the like advice and consent doth hereby extend the time allowed for the return -of the writ issued for such election until the thirty-first day of July next; and with the like advice and consent doth order and direct that a poll shall be taken at. the duly appointed place at Euapuke aforesaid, on such days as shall be appointed by the Returning Officer of the said district, and of which day the said Returning Officer shall give not less than five nor more than fifty days notice ; and that for the purpose of taking such poll the Returning Officer may appoint such Deputy Returning Officer, and Registration Officer, as he may deem necessary, and any previous appointment of a Deputy Returning Officer, or Registration Officer at Ruapuke aforesaid, may revoke. And His Excellency the Governor, with the like advice and consent, doth hereby further order and direct that the said poll, and all proceedings subsequent thereto, shall he taken in accordance with the provisions of " The Maori Representation Act, 1867 ;" and any regulations issued or made under the authority of the same in like manner as if the said writ had been originally made returnable on the twenty-eighth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
