The s.s. Auckland left Wellington on the 9th at 3 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton on the 10th at noon; left Lyttelton on the 11th at Ip.m., and arrived at Port Chalmers on the 12th at 8 a.m.; left at 3.3^ on the 13th, and arrived at Bluff Hai'bor on the morning of the loth. Head winds with fine clear weather to the Nuggets, which we passed at midnight on the 13th, after which met with strong gales and heavy head sea 3. At 7 p.m. on the 14th, slowed engines ; hove to off Ruapuka. At daylight 15th, ste.inied into Bluff, and made fast at wharf at 8.15 a.m. The s.s. Claud Hamilton, John Vino Hall, Commander, left t'andriclge Pier at 2.15 p.m. on the 21st; 6.50 p.m., cleared the Heads; 9.45 a.m.i 22nd, passed the s.s. Taruara ; 4 p.m., off Goose Island. Throughout the passage encountered a succession of strong easterly winds. The p.s. Southland left Dunedin at 3.30 p.m. on 13th, and had light head winds to the Nnggets, and from thence until making this port encountered a heavy S.W. gale with heavy sea ; arrived off the harbor at 7.30 a.m. on the 15th. The Steamship Omeo, 1000 tons, Hugh Mackie, commander, cleared Port Philip Heads at 7 p.m. on the 13th inst. ; passed Swan Island at 9 p.m. on the following day ; experienced light easterly winds the first twenty-four hours, since then light variable winds, with fine weather; passed tie Solander at 4 p.m. on the 18th; hove too in the Straits until daylight, then entered Bluff Harbor at 6 a.m. on the 19th. The Panama, New Zealand and Australian Royal Mail Company's s.s. Otago, W. J. O. Symons, R.N.R. CorninaHder, left Sandridge pier at 3.30 p.m. on the 14th instant, but was obliged to anchor near the West Channel Ligh*; Ship, in consequence of very thick weather, started again at 5 a.m. on the 15th, and passed Port Phillip Heads at 6 a.m. ; and from thence to the Solanders at 6 a.m. on the 19ih ; had made rapid progress, being only 4 days out, but she then encountered a terrific N.W. gale and very thick weather, which rendered it dangerous to proceed further without picking up land, was hove to for 24 hours, during which time it blew with great violence accompanied with heavy rain, at daylight on the 20th sighted Stewart's Island, and arrived at Bluff Harbor at 1 p.m. Since the last visit of the Otago to this port she has been to Sydney for a thorough overhaul, and from the great, speed obtaineu from her, 13£ knots an hour on the passage down, she still carries the reputation as being the crack boat on the coast.
