ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

■ _ . " '"» . -i WE DO NOT IDENTIFY OTTESELVES IN AN* WA* WITH THE OPINIONS EXPBES3ED BY OUB OOBBESEONDBNTg. '

(TO THB EJDITOB OS THB SOOTHIAND TIMES) i Sib,— -It is often said public wants are never attended-to till some member oi Parliament,"" r orl^Juncillor, is sacrificed, and to /prevent Bu6h\ a catastrophe I would call- the attention of Government to the conditipn of Tay-street; it is reaQp^ruelty.' id aiiimals to try to drive loaSS^dr ' djrlly.s' through such a slough. The*nfai;erials at command by the Town Board when Tay-street was made, were of a very inferior quality for street traffic, and have been gradually getting cut through, especially since the conveyance of road metal commenced, and. now with the wet" weather, it has I broke down entirely. It would not take much to make the centre of the street passable for heavy traffic ; say from* Deestreet corner to Kelvin-street, the town traffic diverges a good deal from there. Unfortunately for us, we have no newspaper office in our street, to drum, our grievance into Government ears ; Eskstreet has been so drummed, and made,, not that it was more necessitous, but by their continual drumming they weary them. . - Now, I think it would be cheaper for the Government to keep our main thoroughfares in repair, than to subsidise a town municipality or Board, especially as so little would tide us over for a good many years to come. Hoping to hear of the work referred to being set about immediately, as it could easily be done, even during the winter. — I am, sir, yours &c, Old Identity.
