DtTNEDiN, "Wednesday. — The salmon ova arrived at Balclutha, Tuesday. The cutter Surprize, with the ova, pulled up more than a mile — .to within 300 yards of the ponds. This morning, Mr Dawbin began with Mr Ramsbottom's doubtful Irish ova. 70 boxes were turned out, probably 8000 ia very good condition, which fully stocked the breeding boxes. These ova have turned out far better than was expected. Had opened some excellent sea trout and several boxes of salmon ova, which were in first rate condition. So far, everything has gone on satisfactorily. , "Wellingtox, "Wednesday.— Mr Stafford returns to-morrow, having the Southern steanier at Nelson"- for that purpose. Biflemen will not leave here until Friday. Auckland Groldfields progressing favorably ; there has been some good rushes ; Smith's claim yielded 157 ounces from seventeen tons of stuff. A fire occurred at Grey-street, Auckland, early on the morning of the 28th : loss, nine shops and houses— insured for £500 in Eoyal, and< £4<QO in New Zealand. People had to leap from the windows of their houses. The fire commenced in the house of Teesdale, baker. Bank ot New Z aland ; h&s declared dividend of ten per cent, and five per cent, bonus. £8000 to reserve fund.
