PENNY READINGS.

(TO THE EDITOB OP THB WEEEEir TIIEES.) Sir, — Many efforts have been made, without success, to get up a Literary Institute in this town, and 1 am afraid to try it again. I think a move should be .made to get ready for the winter, that we may have some amusement in the long evenings, and wish you to help in trying to start penny readings or some similar arrangement in which all can join without much expense or trouble. The Government would, perhaps, lend to a properly organised committee the Council Hall for one night a week, and thus the cost each evening would be so -trifling as to leave no doubt but that the receipts would cover it. I give you my name and shall be glad to join half-a-dozen or more others who would like to »cc the thing set going. Yours, &c, Beadeb.
