We have been requested to give publicity to the following : — Invercargill, January 15, 1868. — To Captain Gilroy, Officers, and Crew of the brig " Amherst,"— We, the undersigned, Burrivors of the unfortunate ship " General Grant," would wish to thank you for the great kindness you have shown towards us, both in breaking upon your voyage to land us at the Bluff aud for the hospitable treatment that we met with from all on board your ship. As, unfortunately, we are not in a position to do more than thank yoa, we hope that from the Government and the public generally you will receive a more suitable reward. — We are, j yours respectfully, James Teer, Frederick P. Caughey, W. M. Sanguily, Aaron Heyman, j Allen, William Ferguson, David Ashworth, Mr and Mrs Jewell, Corneilus Drew. We understand that a testimonial from the survivors will also be presented to Mrifames Teer, for the invaluable services he rendered to the castaways during the long period of their sojourn on the island.
