LONDON WOOL REPORT.

l Wednesday, July 31. ! Since the c\™* of our last wool sales several j small tran*ac lions have taken place at late prices. Business in Jkugland and on the continent in Bpite of the improvement observable in the closing rates of the last series remains slack, and will require a strong impulse to return to a really vigorous and healthy position. That the approaching harvest will supply such a stimulus may be hoped, but the present unsettled state of the weather rather damps the bright expectations that were entertained some time ago. Unfortunately, one chief element to a satisfactory trade, viz., confidence is still wanting, and will probably remain so for some time to come, as it cannot possibly return as long as the political relations of the continental powers continue in their present" threatening position. — Under these circumstances nothing can be said as to the prospects of the trade, except that in the face of the enormously increasing production of wool growers must look forward to a continuance of very moderate rates. Our next public sales will probably commence . on the 15th August, and up to date the following quantities have arrived : — Sydney, 22,468 bales ; Port Phillip, 24,627 bales ; Van Dieman's Land, 3410 bales ; Adelaide, 7450 bales ; Swan Biver, 51 bales; New ZBaland, 36,515 bales; Cape, 17,776 bales. Total, 112,297 bales. In addition to this quantity there will be about 20,000 bales held over from last sales, and it is estimated that the total to be offered will not fall short of 160,000 bales.
