POLITICAL— PROVINCIAL.
During the month the greatest interest was manifested in the result of the elections, and on the Provincial Council being called together for the transaction of business, the Hall was crowded to excess to witness the election of the former Superintendent. The choice fell upon the Hon Mr Taylor, who was re-elected. After some delay the following gentlemen agreed to form the new G-o---vernment — viz., Mr M'Clure, Provincial Secretary, Mr Blacklock, Provincial Treasurer, Mr Armstong, and Dr Monckton, members of the Executive without office. It is understood that a part of the policy of the new Executive will be retrenchment, and the prosecution of the railway scheme. Already the Council have passed a resolution in favor of the completion of the Oreti line, without a division, as also the Mataura proposition.
