EXTRACTS FROM AUCKLAND POLICE GAZETTE
Ist July 1867. The missing friend, John Wright is now living at Opotiki. Information i 3 required respecting William Cox, who left Wangarei about two years ago in the schooner ' Kate Grant' for the gold diggings at Hokitika. It appears that he proceeded thence to Wellington, and was employed on some Government works about 30 miles out of that town, where a new township was being formed. The missing friend is thus described: — Age, 42 ; height 5 feet 6i inches ; complexion, fresh ; eyes, hazel ; hair, dark brown ; dark whiskers ; formerly a soldier in the 58th Regiment. Information is requested respecting Robert Hill, who left his wife in Blenheim on the 2nd February last, and went to the Buller, where, it has been subsequently reported, he is in employment. He, however, neglects to contribute towards the support of his wife, who is now in Auckland, or to communicate with her. Hill is described as being about 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, of fair complexion, fair hair, and strong build : usually wears a goatee and moustache.
