MELBOURNE.

The "Argus" of the 27th ult, says:— In the import markets to-day business has not been active. In breadstuffs we note, if anything, rather an easier tone. Victorian flour cannot be quoted over £12 to £12 ss. Victorian wheat is saleable at 5s to 5s 3d, according to sample ; the market, however, is still barely supplied. Maize is a trifle lower, sales having been effected at 3s 6d. Eine teas are more in request, for trade purposes ; we hear of parcels having been quitted at 2s ; a line of good medium congous has also been placed at Is Bd. Kerosene oil now presents a decided downward tendency, the shipments coming forward being so much in excess of requirements. Trade parcels of Cozzens's have been disposed of at 2s 6id, and rumors are current that large quantities have been offerrd at under this figure without leading to business. A consignment of E>y land's fencing wire was quitted at £18 12s 6d for No 8. In liquids we learn of a parcel of 2000 cases of V. H. and Co. geneva having been sold, on private terms. A parcel of Martell's dark brandy, in quarter-casks, has met with* a purchaser at 6s 6d. Hennessy's case brandy is in fair request at 25s 3d to 25s 6d, according to quantity. A small shipment of Machen's stout, in good condition, has realised 9s 3d; and we learn of a parcel of an outside brand having been quitted at 83. The timber sales comprise 135,000 feet flooring ex Caledonia, which realised (all faults) 5s 3d to 6s 9d and 7s, and 9s 3d to 11s 9d and 12s, according to assortments. Weatherboards sold at 5s 9d, 6s 6d, and 6s 9d.
