""The schooner Otago returned from her third •trip to the Taieri yesterday morning. She brings a cargo of potatoes, consigned to her owners C. Clark and Co. Captain Campbell informs us that' he came out at quarter flood, and had not less than -eight feet of water in the south channel. Vessels drawing ten feet can easily- . enter at high tide. The old north channel, which at any time ■was dangerous from the adjacent rocks, is entirelydosed for navigation. — " Daily. Times," 3rd July. The report of the loss of the missionary barque John Williams on the north end of Savage Island, is now confirmed by the arrival. at Sydney of Captain Williams and the officers, and crew in the -brig Tawera, from Tahiti, via Navigator's Bland. The following / officers and , portion of the crew John Williams' arrived in Sydney by the same vessel : — R. Turpy, chief officer ; G-. G/eddes, second officer; J. Runoie, carpenter; A. Bell, cook ; five seamen and two apprentices.
