DUNEDIN. April 2nd, 11.15 a.m. A terrific fire occurred here last night. It .broke' out at about twenty minutes past eleven o'clock in the premises occupied by Mr Wilson, ironmonger, Princesstreet north. "Within an hour the following buildings in the vicinity of the Octagon were totally destroyed: — J. Harding's Octagon Hotel, Jago and Oo.'s timber yard, law, Somner and Co.'s seed warehouse, J. M'Neil's premises, Sampson's butcher's shop, A. T. Burt's plumbor's shop, G-arrott- and Co.'s coach factory. In Princes-street : The premises of Herbert Haiaes and Co., drapers j Patorson and M'Leod, grocers; G\ E. West's music warehouse, J- Denman's photographic rooms, Sourfceon and Caw tailors and clothiers' shop ; James Eeid, chemist's' shop; Zierco's fancy goods warehouse, the Theatre Eoyal, Criterion Hotel. Moray Place South : .8. H. Johnson's plumber's shop, and dwellinghouse adjoining Criterion Hotel. On opposite side of Princes-street:" The premises of — C.Begg, music seller; Hamilton and Watson, furniture dealers ; Scanlan Bros., oilmen ; W. Gregg and Co., coffee merchants ; Schmack, hairdresser ; W. Sinclair, tailor ; J. E. Craw- ( ford, surgeon; E. Lofield, watchmaker. From Moray Place to Octagon the only building saved is Cabitt's, brick building, occupied as South Australian Hotel— that much damaged.
