INVERCARGILL RACES.
SECOND DAT. The wind was certainly less boisterous than the previous day,' but still quite enough to raise the dust. The number on the course, and more especially of ladies, was also in excess of the first day, owing to the far greater attraction both in the races and known qualities of the horses entered for each. The first race for the day was the Hurdle Eace. 20 soys. 2| miles, over 8 flights of hurdles. Weight for age. Mr J. Eoss was thoroughly aufait, and exhibited the patience and calm temper indispensable to the euoeess of the important post of starter,
The whole of the days sport went off without the slighest accident to mar the pleasure. When it is considered that hundreds of horses and persons on foot were mingled pell mell, this says much both- for the orderly conductof those preseut and the effective supervision of the polico. In the evening Miss Juno presented to the jocky rider of the winner of the Ladies Purse a handsomely mounted riding whip, the gift of Mr Puettelkow.
