The chair was taken by T. Daniels Esq., T. A ustin Esq., a'ctins* as vice chairman ; a number of influental gentlemen, bf the town were also present, various toasts were proposed and sonjrs sung and altogether a most pleasant evening was spent. The weather here having been very fine of late the Cricketers have taken advantage of it, and have been practisino every evening with the hopes, soon of olaying a match with their friends in Invercargill. The, Volunteers in their turn have also turned out to drill, and on Saturday even-j ing last mustered for .parade under, the command of Captain Ihstbne. r Tbe Earmers are speaking highly of the good appearance of. their crops, and if this fine weather lasts there is every prospect of having a good find early harvest.
