Mr and Mrs Stewart of the Commercial School, Invercargil!, gave a tea party on Christmas eve to their pupils, and a few friends ; the school-room was most tastefully decorated for the occasion, from each angle to the centre, well suspended wreaths, and from the centre a large bouquet of flowers, the walls being filled up with the words wrought in flowers of " Peace on Earth," "Good will to men," in leaves surrounded with evergreens, and a maltese cross. The children at 4.30 p.m., eat down to tea and cake, which having done justice to it, assembled on the grounds for sports, which they enjoyed to their hearts content until shades of evening, when all again assembled in the school-room to partake of cake j their master gave them a few words of kind advice, impressing upon them the necessity of diligence, not only in their studies but in all their walks in life, greatly commending some who had done most meritoriously and distributing to fuch some small rewards. The school again opens 6JJ Hoßday the IXb. of January, 1867,
